Prevent & delay substance use
Helps prevent or delay first use of alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, and other substances — and reduces related harms.
Problem gambling awareness
Builds awareness of problem gambling risks and the harms that can come with it.
Decision-making & coping
Strengthens decision-making, coping, and conflict resolution skills that protect students long-term.
Risk & consequence awareness
Increases understanding of real-world risks and consequences — without scare tactics.
Connection to more support
Provides referrals to additional services when something more is needed.
Informed, positive choices
Student-centered work aimed at informed choices and positive behavior change.
How it works
Brief, evidence-based, student-centered.
Sessions are short, focused, and built around what the student is actually navigating. We use proven prevention tools — and we stop when the work is done.
- Brief, focused counseling sessions
- Confidential screenings
- Evidence-based prevention interventions
- Skill-building around stress, peers, and pressure
Good to know
Prevention counseling is not therapy or treatment.
This is a non-treatment model. It's not designed for students with a diagnosed substance use disorder or gambling disorder — those students deserve specialized care, and we'll help connect them to it.
Prevention counseling is delivered by OASAS-certified providers and is fully focused on prevention and early support.
Promote informed choices. Support positive change.
If a student could benefit from short-term, prevention-focused support, we're here.
